Tales Around The Fire

At Fort Perch Rock, New Brighton

About the Group

Our own tale began in September 2007 when Tim Kingham, Dougie Darroch and various friends of Fort Perch Rock met around a roaring fire to share a glass of wine, put the world to rights, and see what augured in the flames. Tim is a much travelled singer, song-writer, poet and story teller who, on returning to Merseyside, wanted to foster these ancient arts in the kind of magic ambience that only firelight and natural acoustics can provide. Dougie, who runs the Fort and is keen to promote a community-based programme of local history and culture, offered the old officers’ mess – the one room to have had the luxury of an open fire! It turned out to be a perfect match, and the Fort soon became a regular haunt for both established and aspiring bards, and for all those who value an evening’s entertainment that leaves a warm glow in the soul, and embers long remembered.

We meet at Fort Perch Rock off New Brighton Promenade (CH45 2JU) at 7.45pm (for an 8pm start) on the last Friday of every month. These are open floor sessions – just let the MC know if you would like to make a contribution. We also have special guest nights as advertised in our Events programme. (Note that our Christmas meeting in 2009 has been brought forward to Friday 18 December).

During the Easter, summer (June, July, August) and Christmas holidays our tales are suitable for children, and families are most welcome.

Entry to our last-Friday-in-the-month sessions is free. A plate is left for donations at your discretion. Special guest nights are priced as shown in the Events programme.

To minimise our carbon footprint we encourage participation in local woodland management and other environmental programmes. If the weather is warm, we do not light the fire, but meet in candlelight, or else outside in the yard.
